How do QED's corrosion inhibitors work?

We have had success with many variants of our products across many industry sectors (Oil, Gas, Construction). For detailed information on how our products work, trials and reports please click on the links below.

QED's products can also be used to protect materials other than steel, click here for a list of other protected metals.

- How they work !

For an explanation of how migrating corrosion inhibitors work in concrete, please click here. The principles also apply to the protection of steel within our pipeline protection and other products.

The Science - The detailed explanation

For a comprehensive scientific explanation of how QED's VPI works in concrete, select this link. This contains an explanation of how corrosion occurs within concrete, the effect of chlorides and carbonation and how VPI's address this problem. You will also find the chemical formulas helping to further explain the physical changes that take place over time.

The Proof - QED's own lab tests

For details on tests conducted by QED, please click here. Some of our tests are ongoing as corrosion tests must be carried out over periods of anything upto 20 years to show meaningful results. All tests are documented internally by QED and we take photographic evidence, as well as welcoming third part verification.

Micro-Analysis- Independent tests

QED had concrete cubes embedded with our Margel 580 product submitted for testing The testing was carried out by an independent testing house in the UK, Click here for the results. These tests are being redone in the UK currently, with more detailed results due in Mid-2008. The aim being to accurately demonstrate the movement of the VPI vapours through different qualities of concrete and the adsorbtion of the vapours onto steel and hence protection given when using QED's VPI products.

Independent Testing by Geomaterials Ltd

QED in partnership with Makers Industrial Ltd, commissioned independent verification that Margel VPI would travel through concrete. Here is a copy of the report in Adobe PDF format.
